Biography

Betsy Mason is an attorney in McLane Middleton's corporate department and energy and environmental practice area.  She provides strategic legal advice to commercial, industrial, real estate and telecommunications clients on environmental, land use and zoning matters. Betsy has more than two decades of private and public sector experience , and her expertise ranges from representing private and government clients in federal, state and local permitting and enforcement proceedings to assisting developers, property owners and lenders in developing, negotiating and implementing cost-effective plans for contaminated site cleanup and redevelopment.

Betsy frequently appears before municipal boards in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and obtains zoning approvals for telecommunications facilities.  She also represents numerous clients in federal and state Superfund response actions, litigation and negotiations, and advises commercial and non-profit clients on environmental compliance and permitting under federal and state hazardous waste management, wetlands and water regulations.  

Betsy also works closely with clients to develop and implement practical strategies for addressing and resolving environmental risks. She represents clients before agencies and in courts in land use and environmental permitting and enforcement proceedings , and assists clients in identifying, evaluating and appropriately allocating environmental risks in corporate and real estate transactions.   

Previously, Betsy was a partner at Bernkopf Goodman LLP in Boston, MA. She also was a Senior Assistant Regional Counsel in the Boston office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as well as counsel at Anderson & Kreiger LLP in Cambridge, MA and an associate at Goodwin Procter LLP and Mintz Levin, both in Boston.  Betsy served as law clerk to Chief Justice Joseph P. Warner and the Honorable Benjamin Kaplan of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. While in law school, she was Editor-in-Chief of the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review.

Betsy received her B.A. from Yale University, her M.A. from Boston University and her J.D. from Boston College Law School.
