Nancy is a Director in the firm’s Trusts and Estates Department where she advises high net worth individuals, family offices, foundations, public charities and fiduciaries. Her practice encompasses gift and estate planning, trusteeship and trust administration, estate settlement, philanthropy and family governance.
Drawing upon her experience in law, wealth management and philanthropy – as well as her personal experience as co-founder of a family business – Nancy supports families in defining, evolving and realizing legacy; building consensus among stakeholders; and accomplishing their goals in the most practical and tax-efficient manner. Her work includes advising art collectors on planning strategies related to their collections and helping clients establish New Hampshire Trusts (including dynasty trusts and directed trusts) to take advantage of the state’s favorable trust laws.
Prior to joining the firm, Nancy was Managing Director and Global Head of Fiduciary at BNY Mellon where she led a team of trust specialists serving as the trusted advisor to family offices and the families they serve, as well as charitable trusts and foundations. Prior to that, she was Managing Director and Investment and Wealth Structuring Market Director with Bank of America Private Bank, leading a team of legal and accounting professionals with a focus on trusts and estates, family legacy, philanthropy and planning for art collectors.
Earlier in her career, Nancy was Head of Estates & Special Investments and Co-Head of Trusts & Gifts at Harvard Management Company. In that role, she was charged with negotiating, structuring and oversight of all private company, real estate, art, copyright and other non-cash gifts to Harvard University in addition to all gifts made through wills or trusts. She began her legal career practicing in the field of domestic and international trusts and estates law for over 15 years, during which time she lectured for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners.
Nancy has served on the Director’s Advisory Council of the Harvard Art Museums since its inception. She holds the designation of Trust and Estate Practitioner, given by the global professional Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and was a Founding Co-Chair of the Boston Chapter of STEP (now STEP New England).
Nancy received her B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale College (1991) and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (1996). She also has a Master of Arts degree in Art History (1993) from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England.
