Law Students

McLane Middleton’s hiring philosophy is to seek candidates with excellent legal credentials from top law schools who are interested in working with New England clients.

We also believe in a solid commitment from our partners and senior attorneys to mentor junior associates to become confident and successful lawyers. Our offices in New Hampshire and Massachusetts share a framework that pairs senior attorneys with first-year associates, offering a structured development and mentor program to engage new associates throughout their career. Law firm culture is unique, and we do our best to integrate our attorneys socially and professionally.

We set up routine attorney feedback sessions, allowing for new hires to methodically ask questions, communicate concerns, and discuss career goals with management and practice group leadership. This structured format is very effective with attorney retention.

In addition to our professional development workshops, offsite excursions, and mentor program, all associates are scheduled to meet with our director of marketing to define an annual marketing plan. Throughout the year, the marketing department will assist with ongoing marketing goals such as articles, web bio improvements, speaking engagements, and participation at client events. Furthermore, associates receive one-on-one training from our Library and Information Governance directors for research and documentation purposes.

Summer Program

In addition to full-time employment, we offer a summer program for law students.  This program is flexible to law school student academic calendars, but typically occurs from June to mid-August in our Manchester, N.H. office exposing students to a variety of assignments, including litigation, corporate, and estate planning matters.  We provide summer clerks with projects from various practice groups, ethics research and ongoing firm projects.  We have had great results with this program, as it provides students an inside look at McLane Middleton’s work environment, allowing them to explore many practice areas and to experience the office dynamic.  Our summer program has become highly competitive, attracting students from top law schools.  We have been pleased to offer many students full-time positions upon graduation.
