Jennifer Parent to Receive 2016 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award from the NH Women’s Bar Association

McLane Middleton, Professional Association congratulates Jennifer L. Parent on being named the 2016 Marilla M. Ricker Achievement Award winner for her distinguished career and outstanding achievements in the legal profession on behalf of women.

The award, presented by the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association (NHWBA), will be presented at the NHWBA’s 19th Annual Fall Reception on October 13, 2016 at the Concord Country Club.

Jennifer is a Director at McLane Middleton and is Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department. She recently served on the firm’s Management Committee. She is a founding member and past president of the NHWBA and received the organization’s Trailblazer in Law Award in 2008. She is a past president of the New Hampshire Bar Association and currently serves on the Executive Council of the National Conference of Bar Presidents where she was nominated as Secretary with her expected presidency in 2018. She is also on the board of the New Hampshire Bar Foundation. She is a 2016 Life Fellow of the NH Bar Foundation, State Chair and Sustaining Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and Sustaining Life Fellow of the National Conference of Bar President. 

Throughout her career, she has been recognized for numerous awards including the 2015 and 2013 list of Top 50 Female Attorneys in New England by Super Lawyers, the 2015 Outstanding Women in Business Award from the New Hampshire Business Review, the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Philip S. Hollman Gender Equality Award, the Union Leader’s 40 Under Forty Business Leaders, and the Robert E. Kirby Award. She is also recognized by Chambers USA: A Guide To America’s Leading Lawyers (Labor & Employment).

She also gives back to the community and has served on various boards including the Board of Trustees for Palace Theatre, New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts, Opera New Hampshire, New Hampshire Alumni of Suffolk University Law School, New Hampshire Suffolk Law Alumni Loan Assistance Program, and the Dean’s Advisory Committee for the law school. 

As her nominator wrote, “[f]rom working with local businesses to helping in the community, Jennifer works tirelessly to help make New Hampshire a better place. Her career accomplishments and accolades prove that she is not just a great female attorney, she is a great attorney. Her efforts have helped pave the way for future women to be leaders in both the field of law and business as a whole.” 

The reception will be held at the Concord Country Club in Concord, NH from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016. In addition to the presentation of the Ricker Award to Attorney Parent, the NHWBA will present the Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship to Christine Hilliard, a deserving second year law student at UNH School of Law. A 50/50 raffle to support the McLaughlin Scholarship Fund will also be held at the reception.

The award is named in honor of Marilla M. Ricker, the first woman to apply for admission to the New Hampshire Bar. The award honors outstanding women lawyers in New Hampshire who have achieved professional excellence, and who have paved the way to success for other women lawyers, advanced opportunities for women in the profession and/or performed exemplary public service on behalf of women. 

The New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association is a statewide bar association founded to promote and support the advancement and interests of women in the legal community through leadership, professional interaction, education and the exchange of ideas between its members and the community.
