Linda Johnson Pens Advice for Independent School Heads On Handling a Crisis on Campus

Johnson’s Section on Crisis Response Included in the The Head’s Handbook

July 12, 2011, CONCORD, Manchester, Portsmouth, NH, and Woburn, Massachusetts– The McLane Law Firm is pleased to announce that Linda Johnson was recently published in The Head’s Handbook; A Guide for Aspiring, New, and Experienced Heads of School.

Linda’s contribution to the book addresses crisis response.  It begins…

It can happen at any school at any time.  The phone rings.  A clearly distraught parent tells you that her daughter has been sexually assaulted by an older male student at your school.  What do you do?  Do you call the police?  Do you call the boy’s parents?  Is it a reportable abuse?  Whom do you call first?

The section addresses a school head’s responsibility for crisis response from the standpoints of student safety, legal ramifications, media response, internal and external communications, disciplinary action and the impact on the school’s future policies and procedures.  The Head’s Handbook is published by the National Association of Independent Schools, and is edited by Jay Riven and Gene Batiste.

As Co-Chair of the McLane’s Education Law Group, Linda represents the interests of many private elementary and high schools, colleges, and the largest independent academy in the United States. She can be reached at (603) 628-1267.
