Linda Johnson to Speak on Educator Sexual Misconduct

McLane Middleton attorney Linda S. Johnson will present at United Educators’ upcoming webinar on “Educator Sexual Misconduct at Independent Schools” on April 30, 2018.  Linda will be joined on the webinar by Debra Wilson, General Counsel for the National Association of Independent Schools, and Melanie Bennett, Risk Management Counsel for United Educators.

During the webinar, panelists will analyze United Educators’ independent school claims arising out of educator-on-student sexual misconduct that reveals trends that all administrators should proactively address.  These include serial perpetrators, enforcing appropriate educator-student boundaries, and reporting challenges.  Debra Wilson will provide an overview of the NAIS-TABS recommendations from the recent task force report on Prevention and Response to Educator Sexual Misconduct, and Linda will talk about using a Code of Conduct regarding behavioral expectations for healthy adult to student interactions to help ensure a safe school community. 

Linda is a director at McLane Middleton and has over 30 years of experience litigating cases in state and federal agencies and courts, and in representing the interests of management in all aspects of labor and employment law.  She is co-chair of the firm’s Education Law Group and focuses her practice on understanding and serving the needs of independent and boarding schools.   She serves as outside legal counsel to many of the country’s top independent and boarding schools including the largest independent academy in the United States.  She also provides counseling services, policy development and review, and trainings to public schools especially in the area of safe schools and employment law.  She works closely with heads of schools, deans, financial officers, trustees, and others.  She advises her clients on all aspects of school operations including employment law, student discipline, contracts, fiduciary and tort law, leadership development, investigations, compliance audits,  risk management, crisis response and student safety.
