McLane Director Linda Johnson Honored by New Hampshire Bar Association for Advocacy of Gender Equality

February 20, 2006, MANCHESTER, NH — The law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association is proud to announce that Linda Johnson, chair of the firm’s employment and education practices, has received the Philip S. Hollman Equality Award from the New Hampshire Bar Association.

Established on the occasion of Judge Hollman’s retirement from the Superior Court Bench in 2003, the award was designed to honor Judge Hollman’s efforts as a stalwart advocate for gender equality in the legal system. Judge Hollman was an original member of the Task Force on Women in the Bar in 1988 and has been a member of the Committee since that time.

Candidates for the third annual award were considered on the basis of their dedication to promoting respect and fair treatment toward all members of the judicial system; their dedication to promoting gender equality; their dedication to educating others about gender equality issues; and their leadership and service as a role model to others in the legal profession.

“Attorney Johnson’s dedication in these areas is so evident in not only her Bar Association activities, but with her personal work in addressing women’s groups and volunteering countless hours to assisting women in gaining fair status,” said Attorney Kathy Shanelaris, Chairperson of the NH Bar Association’s Committee on Gender Equality.

Linda is a Commissioner for the New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Women and is chair of its Gender Equity in Education Committee. She has presented to thousands of school employees, students, coaches and businesses on the topics of harassment, gender equity and leadership. Linda was the first woman officer of the New Hampshire Bar Association when she served as its treasurer in 1988. She has been awarded the Jon Meyer Civil Rights Award, the Marilla Ricker award for a leading female attorney in New Hampshire, and was named a “Champion for Children” by the state school administrators association. She was also recently named as one of the 2006 “Outstanding Women in Business” by the New Hampshire Business Review.
