McLane Director Parent Named a Trailblazer in the Law

May 6, 2008, Manchester, NH: The law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association, with offices in Manchester, Portsmouth, and Concord, is pleased to announce that Jennifer Parent has been presented a Women Trailblazer in the Law Award by the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association.

Parent, one of McLane’s youngest attorneys to become a Director, is a member of the Business Litigation, Employment, Land Use, and Education and Independent School Law Practice Groups. Her practice involves representation of large and small companies in litigation, business and employment disputes.

She is a founding member of the NHWBA and served successive terms as its Secretary, Vice President and President. She is a previous recipient of the NH Bar Foundation Kirby Award, selected by a committee of judges from the U.S. District Court, NH Supreme Court, Probate Court, and district court, and was named a “40 Under 40” honoree in 2007 by the Manchester Union Leader.

Jennifer serves on the Board of Opera New Hampshire, in addition to being deeply involved with her alma mater. As president of the New Hampshire Alumni of Suffolk University Law School, Jennifer helped found the organization’s first loan assistance program for Suffolk law graduates who practice in NH’s public sector helping the disadvantaged. She also serves on Suffolk’s Dean’s Advisory Committee.

At the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association gala held on April 10 where the Trailblazer honorees were celebrated, Parent spoke on the need for the development of mentoring and education that would promote and encourage women as leaders and women in leadership, finishing with a quote from the first female doctor in the United States, Elizabeth Blackwell: “For what is done or learned by one class of women becomes, by virtue of their common womanhood, the property of all women.”

Also recognized for their work in advancing the status of women in the legal profession were NH Attorney General and fellow McLane alumna Kelly Ayotte, Judge Jean Burling, Judge Susan Carbon, Supreme Court Justice Linda Dalianis, and Maureen Raiche-Manning.
