McLane Law Firm Welcomes Three New Attorneys

The McLane Law Firm with four offices in Woburn, Massachusetts, and Manchester, Portsmouth, and Concord, New Hampshire, is pleased to welcome Dr. Lin J. Hymel, Peter I. Dunn, and Catherine H. Hines to the firm.

Lin Hymel, Ph.D. is a former academic scientist who joins McLane’s Intellectual Property Group as of counsel, focusing his practice on patent prosecution, client counseling, patent reexamination, and patent litigation with particular attention to the life sciences, pharmaceuticals, materials science and medical device sectors.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Hymel was a partner with the Boston, Massachusetts law firm of Weingarten, Schurgin, Gagnebin & Lebovici, LLP, where he focused on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution for early stage companies and academic institutions.  Before that, he was with the firm of Edwards, Angell, Palmer & Dodge, LLP in Boston, Massachusetts and Banner & Witcoff in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Hymel was previously a patent attorney with Human Genome Sciences in Rockville, Maryland, where he worked on patent prosecution in the U.S. and worldwide.

He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Maryland and is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Association and the Boston Patent Law Association, where he co-chairs the Chemical Practice Committee.

Dr. Hymel received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, his Ph.D. in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University, and his B.S. degree from Tulane University. He has taught and done research at European universities and is fluent in the German language.  He was assistant professor of physiology at Tulane University School of Medicine.

Peter I. Dunn joins McLane’s Corporate Department, practicing in the areas of corporate and securities law, mergers and acquisitions.  He works with family businesses, emerging companies and start-ups, in a variety of industries ranging from life sciences, medical devices, high-tech and finance to construction and transportation. He counsels clients on a wide range of matters such as formation, debt and equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, employment matters and corporate governance. He often acts as outside general counsel for many of his clients which sees him drafting, negotiating and advising on issues ranging from commercial sales terms, vendor contracts, lending, licensing and compliance.

Peter joins the firm from the Boston, Massachusetts law firm of Craig and Macauley, Professional Corporation.  Prior to that, he was with Nutter, McClennen & Fish, in Boston.

Peter is very active in professional and public service.  He is a trustee for the Summit Montessori School in Framingham, Massachusetts, and is an active member of the Association for Corporate Growth. Peter is a member of the Boston and Massachusetts Bar Associations. He has been named to the Massachusetts Superlawyers every year since 2004. Peter also serves on the business law curriculum committee at Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and regularly lectures and chairs panels on business law topic to the legal and business communities. He also served  in the military police as member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

Peter received his J.D., magna cum laude from Boston College Law School and his B.A. in political science cum laude from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

 Catherine H. Hines joins the firm as an associate in McLane’s Tax Group, serving clients in a range of transactions related to tax and health care law.

Catherine joins McLane from the Tax Department of the Boston, Massachusetts firm of Ropes & Gray, LLP.  Previously, she worked for Partners HealthCare Systems, in various financial and management roles with Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital.

Catherine is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, she is a member of the Boston Bar Association and an active volunteer with the Bar Association’s Income Tax Assistance Program.

She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, graduating cum laude in 2006. She received her Master’s degree in health administration services from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and her B.A. in neurobiology from Cornell University, graduating summa cum laude.
