Rick Stone Appointed Chair of the Taxation Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association

McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association is pleased to announce that Richard M. Stone has been appointed Chair of the Taxation Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association.

Rick has been active in the Massachusetts Bar Association (“MBA”) for several years, first as chair of its State Tax Practice Group, then as Vice Chair of the Taxation Section.

In his leadership role for tax attorneys in Massachusetts, he will focus on state, federal and international tax issues involving the IRS, the MA Department of Revenue, and the tax agencies of neighboring states.

“Ultimately, my goal will be to serve MBA members, the business community, accountants, law firms, and all other taxpayers and help to achieve a more equitable, efficient, and fair tax system,” said Rick.

In his practice at McLane, Rick focuses on tax litigation including planning, audits, and appeals in the U.S. and abroad.  He serves accounting firms, law firms, tax professionals, and their clients who need assistance with complex civil and criminal tax issues.  He has served as an expert witness on international tax issues, a judge at Harvard Law School’s National Negotiation Competition, and has been widely published.

His deep U.S. and international business experience includes serving as General Counsel of two major multinational U.S. companies, Western Development Corporation (later known as The Mills Corporation), a national real estate developer of large shopping centers, and APCOA, Inc., then the world’s largest developer and owner of parking lots.

In addition to his leadership role with the Massachusetts Bar Association, Rick serves as a Member of the American Bar Association Advisory Panel, a group of lawyers that informs the ABA’s priorities and decisions, by providing opinions about the direction of the ABA and issues facing the legal profession.

He is admitted to the Bar in Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, D.C., and the U.S. Tax Court. He received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and his B.S. in Mathematics from Lafayette College.

Rick and his wife live in Boston’s Ashmont Hill neighborhood.  He can be reached at rick.stone@mclane.com or at McLane’s TradeCenter 128 office in Woburn at 781-904-2689.
