99 Degrees Custom, AMS-Qi and Quad Technologies LLC Will Compete for Nearly $1.5 Million in Cash Awards

99 Degrees Custom of Lawrence, Massachusetts, manufactures build-to-order apparel for the me-commerce market and is built to empower the workforce in Lawrence and Lowell, Massachusetts.
AMS-Qi, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, improves electricity generation. Their electro-optical device produces more efficient coal & biofuel burn and reduces pollutant emission.
Quad Technologies LLC of Beverly, Massachusetts, has developed a unique dis¬solv¬able hydrogel material that enables cost effective, robust, and non-toxic consumables for stem cell separation.
At an awards ceremony being held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on October 30, each team will have fifteen minutes to pitch a panel of judges including luminaries such as Josh Boger, Desh Deshpande, Paul English, and Laura Sen.
MassChallenge will award nearly $1.5 million in grants live on stage to between 10-20 of the finalists, typically in amounts of either $50,000 or $100,000, in addition to other cash prizes.
Nearly 1,200 applicants applied to the 2013 MassChallenge accelerator. 128 Global Finalist startups were admitted to the four month accelerator, and the top 26 teams have been selected to pitch to judges on October 30.
George T. Whitesides, CEO and President of Virgin Galactic (the space tourism initiative of Richard Branson and Virgin Group), will deliver the keynote speech, and Aasif Mandvi of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
