McLane Hosts George Bald at Business to Business Reception

June 22, 2007, Portsmouth, NH
—The law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association recently hosted a reception for the firm’s corporate clients at which George Bald, head of New Hampshire’s Department of Resources and Economic Development spoke about the state of New Hampshire’s economy. Bald, whose office is responsible for supporting existing enterprises and attracting new businesses called on each and every person in the audience of more than a hundred to consider their role in promoting the state’s economic resources.

“Every single person in this room knows of someone who needs help,” he said. “It’s your responsibility `as part of New Hampshire’s vital business community` to turn them on to someone in our agency who can help.”

Bald cited an example of a business that recently relocated to Pease Air Force Base, who was brought to his attention by a mutual acquaintance. “We could have spent hundred of thousands of dollars promoting the state, and still not connected with that business owner,” he said.

He pointed out several of the state’s benefits that foster a healthy environment in which citizens can work and businesses can thrive. New Hampshire has been named the most livable state in the nation for the past three years, it is the second healthiest state, has the third lowest crime rate, and boasts the lowest poverty rate of any state in the nation. It ranks seventh in per capita income, seventh with regard to the state’s business tax climate, and sixth in the percentage of population of high school graduates. The number of uninsured citizens is also 50% lower than the national average.

“My agency is tied to maintaining a good environment and a good economy,” Bald summed. “Raising both will ensure New Hampshire’s prosperous future.”

The law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association was recently honored with the top rankings for New Hampshire for corporate, litigation, employment, environmental and real estate law by Chambers and Partners, publisher of the leading guide to global legal resources.
