Steve Burke, Chair of McLane’s Tax Department Appointed to AICPA Council

The law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, Professional Association, with offices in Manchester, Portsmouth, Concord, as well as Woburn, Massachusetts, is pleased to announce that Steven Burke, Chair of McLane’s Tax Department was recently appointed to serve on the Governing Council for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, (“AICPA”).

The Governing Council determines AICPA programs and establishes general policies for the Institute. This is Steve’s third term serving on the Council, having previously served on the Council in the early 2000s.

For over twenty-five years, Steve has devoted his law practice to advising on business, governance and tax matters, transactions, business succession and sophisticated executive compensation. He represents businesses and individuals before the IRS and New Hampshire and Massachusetts Department of Revenue and has assisted clients in obtaining administrative rulings from the IRS. Steve has served as counsel for companies, fiduciaries and sellers in over thirty ESOP transactions. He also advises high net worth individuals, families, and fiduciaries on estate planning, trust administration and wealth preservation, and serves as counsel for the trustees of significant charitable, educational, and tax-exempt institutions, offering advice on fiduciary, governance and tax matters.

In addition to his membership on the AICPA’s Council, Steve is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, and is President Elect of the New Hampshire Society of Certified Public Accountants, for his second term. He is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association and Massachusetts Bar Association, as well as a member of the United States Tax Court. He is Past President of the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Taxation Section, a member of the American Bar Association Taxation Section, and past chair of the New Hampshire Employee Benefits Council.

Steve received his LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University School of Law (1990), J.D. from the University of New Hampshire School of Law (formerly Franklin Pierce Law Center)(1987), M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (1984) and B.A. from Bates College (1981). He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Hampshire School of Law and previously worked as a CPA at PriceWaterhouse in Boston, Massachusetts.
